Livestock Guarantee

We do everything in our power to ensure your fish are ready to go to their new home, but not every fish tolerates relocation well. That’s why The Wet Spot offers a Livestock Guarantee for nearly every species we carry.

Through experience, we have found there are a few species which are more prone to having an adverse reaction to relocation. Even when moved to identical conditions, tragedy can still sometimes strike. It is for this reason that we are unable to apply our Livestock Guarantee to these Guarantee Exempt Fish.

Should your fish perish within 24 hours of purchase, our Livestock Guarantee has you covered. Simply bring in the remains for our staff to examine, as well as a separate water sample for testing. This must be done within 24 hours of the original purchase to be eligible for store credit.

Classes, Tours, and Events

We’re proud to offer educational seminars and workshops at our Portland location. To see all of the upcoming classes The Wet Spot has to offer, check out our Events Calendar.

The Wet Spot has always been a popular destination for fish enthusiasts, both young and old. We often get requests for tours, field trips, and other functions. While we’re often quite busy, we’re happy to make the store available for these functions where possible. Please Contact Us if you’d like to set up a tour or field trip, or for more information.

We’re flattered you’d like to host your event in our store! While we don’t typically make The Wet Spot available for such events, we’re certainly willing to hear your proposal! Please Contact Us with any pertinent details.

We’re excited to meet you! To see when and where you can meet up with The Wet Spot staff, check out our Events Calendar.

The Wet Spot Tropical Fish has a variety of services available to our local customers. From fish relocation to aquarium maintenance, we are here to help you achieve your aquatic dreams. Visit our Services page for more details.

We offer local tear-down, transport, and set-up of tanks, as well as shipping services to help keep your aquatic family together.  See our Services page for more information or to request a quote.

You can pay your bill by credit or debit card over the phone by calling our maintenance team at (503) 709-0871. You can also mail a check or money order to 4310 NE Hancock St. Portland, OR 97213. Thank you for your business!

Special Requests

The Wet Spot is proud to have access to many rare fish, and we’re often asked to keep an eye out for special requests. If you’d like us to notify you when we obtain a certain species, simply fill out our Species Request Form, and we’ll contact you as soon as they arrive.

We will always try to accommodate your sexing requests when picking out your fish. However, we are not able to offer sexing guarantees on any fish listed as “unsexed”. Please see our Sexing Policy for more details.

Paroon Sharks, Pangasius, and other “tank buster” fish are not something we carry or condone in the aquarium trade. These fish are often recommended for small aquariums, and then frequently “set free” into local waterways. They can decimate native species and ruin ecosystems. Paroon Sharks in particular can grow up to 6 feet long! Even in a public aquarium setting their size is considered massive. The Wet Spot would strongly urge you to reconsider looking for and purchasing this and other tank buster fish.

Discounts and Donations

We are unable to offer discounts on bulk purchases at this time.

While the Wet Spot does accept donations of fish and supplies, not all donations will be suitable for our store. Please Contact Us with more information about your donation so we can determine if we are able to assist you. We are unable to offer store credit for donations at this time.

The Wet Spot is proud to provide donations to worthy causes upon request. If you’d like us to consider your organization for a donation of goods or services, please fill out our Donation Request Form.

Payments, Credits, and Returns

The Wet Spot retail store accepts all major credit and debit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. We also accept Wet Spot Tropical Fish gift certificates and gift cards.

We are unable to accept checks, money orders, bank transfers, PayPal, Venmo, crypto-currencies, or payments via other platforms at this time.

Store credit is good for 1 year from the date of issue and can be used toward any purchase. When checking out, mention your credit to the cashier so that it can be applied for you.

We know sometimes it can be difficult to find exactly the right product for your tank. The Wet Spot offers store credit for returns made within 30 days of the original purchase, provided products are unopened and undamaged.

Miscellaneous

The Wet Spot is always accepting resumes from qualified candidates. Visit our hiring page to see currently available positions and to learn more about the application process.

With today’s ecological concerns, we understand the delicacy of carrying wild fish, threatened species, and those at risk of total habitat destruction. To ensure fish are transported, caught, and sourced ethically, The Wet Spot does not and will not ever transship fish.

We also do not promote the keeping, sale, or purchase of fish known as “tank buster fish”. These fish are often recommended for small aquariums, and then frequently “set free” into local waterways. They can decimate native species and ruin ecosystems.

Lastly, we have specialized breeding programs in place for some species which are heavily threatened due to habitat destruction. Our efforts aim to help ensure these species never face extinction.

All of our Policies and Terms of Service can be found here.

We’re happy to answer any additional questions you may have. Please Contact Us via email, telephone, or live chat so we can assist you.

Live Arrival Guarantee

We do everything in our power to ensure your fish have a safe and pleasant journey to their new home, but not every fish tolerates relocation well. That’s why The Wet Spot offers a Live Arrival Guarantee for nearly every species we carry.

Through experience, we have found there are a few species which are more prone to having an adverse reaction to relocation. Even when transported in perfect conditions, via safest and fastest way possible, tragedy can still sometimes strike. It is for this reason that we are unable to apply our Live Arrival Guarantee to these Guarantee Exempt Fish.

In order to receive credit for any fish that are dead-on-arrival, please follow our Live Arrival Guarantee procedure. In the event that one of your fish does not make the journey, we require two clear pictures of the fish in the sealed bag within four hours of delivery. Images must be taken prior to opening the shipping bag to receive credit. Once the pictures are received, we can credit your account.

Once the bag is opened or acclimation has begun, the Live Arrival Guarantee no longer applies. If pictures are received more than four hours after delivery, credit cannot be issued.

Online Ordering

Ordering with us is easy! We take orders via email, telephone, and live chat. Click here to get started.

We have a minimum online order of $24.00, before shipping costs. If you’re short on space in your tank, we can help fill out your order with live plants, food, or supplies. If you’re still shy of the minimum, but need nothing else, you can elect to pay the difference as a charitable donation or toward team-building for our staff.

We do have minimums of 6 for many of our smaller fish, shrimp, and snails. This is to ensure that schooling fish and smaller species are comfortable and happy during shipping and in your tank. If you have an existing school and only need a few more, you can elect to pay the difference as a charitable donation or toward team-building for our staff.

While you are welcome to place a pending order as far in advance as you’d like, your order would likely be impacted by our Hold Policy. Fish can only be placed on hold for paid orders scheduled to ship within the next 48 hours. Orders which are placed in advance cannot be finalized or have fish placed on hold any sooner than 48 hours prior to shipment. Thus, we recommend finalizing your order (including payment) approximately 48 hours prior to your desired shipping day so that we can put your fish on hold as soon as possible. Use the table below to see when we recommend placing your order, providing payment, and finalizing order details.

If I want to receive my fish on:I should place my order on:I should finalize my order by:My fish will ship out on:

SaturdayTuesdayWednesdayFriday

We do not guarantee same-day shipments, though we will do our best to fit you in where we are able to. If you require a specific delivery date, we recommend placing your order several days in advance.

We are proud to be able to bring in a wide variety of species, but with variety also comes with a high demand for most of our unique fish. We can put your fish on hold up to 48 hours prior to shipping, but are unable to offer holds longer than that. Please see our Hold Policy for more details.

Yes, we do offer gift services. However, we urge anyone purchasing fish as gifts to remember that these are live animals, and as such, the purchase should be cleared with the recipient prior to purchase. For those unsure which fish would be appreciated by or appropriate for a loved one, we offer gift cards in any denomination.

Yes, simply indicate when submitting your order that you would like to pick up your fish locally. We provide a variety of available pick up days and times to suit your needs. In-store pick up orders must be finalized (including payment) at least 24 hours in advance to allow us to prepare your fish for pick up.

Shipping

Shipping live animals may seem complicated, but The Wet Spot has been shipping fish for more than 14 years! Our first-hand knowledge and experience allows us to ensure your fish make the journey safely.

Once your order is submitted, we’ll ensure the fish are healthy and look beautiful before confirming the order. Once the order is confirmed, we will catch the fish, add oxygen and a piece of filter to their bags, and double-bag them for safety. Fish are placed into their boxes, which are lined with absorbent paper and insulating Styrofoam.

Fish are then triple-checked by our crew for correct species, health, behavior, and appearance before wrapping them up. Heat packs will be applied as needed at no extra cost. At the end of the day our shipper picks them up, in most cases delivering them the following day.

We ship to all states within the continental US, and to most of Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico. We cannot ship to APO, PO Boxes, or mail forwarding services. For the safety of the fish, during colder months we may decline shipping of livestock to cities which are outside of one-day delivery zones.

While we do not currently ship to Canada, we can ship to an address near a border crossing. Our invoices include full scientific names to facilitate easy border crossing when paired with your import permit.

Most shipments reach their destinations without any trouble, but unforeseen circumstances do occur. In the event of an issue, dedicated parcel monitors immediately alert our team and work directly with us to re-route your fish and get them to you as quickly as possible. Shipments affected by mechanical failure, inclement weather, or missed flight delays may still be delivered on the estimated day (albeit later than planned), but are more often delivered the following day.

In the unlikely event that your package is delayed further, any losses will need to be claimed through insurance. For this reason, we highly recommend insuring each package. Without insurance, we cannot cover any losses for packages that have been delayed. Please see our Insurance and Live Arrival Guarantee Policies for more details.

For those with busy schedules, we do our best to accommodate any requests for a specific delivery date. If you have particular dates which work well for you, please let us know a few days in advance so we can finalize your order and ensure that we have space.

We are happy to charge your personal shipping account at your request, but recommend first checking to ensure your negotiated rates will truly be lower. We are unable to accept customer generated labels for shipment.

We always have an eye on the sky, making sure your weather stays within approved temperature ranges. Should we determine the weather is not suitable for shipping, we reserve the right to hold the package for a future delivery date. Inclement weather, while unfortunate, does not negate our Hold Policy.

We can ship to convention centers and hotels, given adequate notice and with specific restrictions, but we are unable to hand-deliver fish to attendees.

Provided the fish are eligible, we do afford customers the option of shipping via slower transit methods. However, we reserve the right to refuse this option at any time if we find it to be in the best interest of the fish. Please be aware, animals shipped via two-day methods are not eligible for reimbursement of any kind and are not covered under our Live Arrival Guarantee.

We do not offer slower shipping methods when the weather in Portland, the final destination, or in any connecting cities is outside of our approved temperature ranges.

Insurance

We highly encourage you insure your package, as unforeseen delays do happen occasionally. However, you may elect to waive the insurance on packages below $200. The Wet Spot reserves the right to require insurance if it is deemed to be in the best interest of all parties. Please see our Insurance Policy for more details.

Shipping insurance covers the cost of the fish and any shipping and handling fees. Please see our Insurance Policy for more details.

All orders over $200 require insurance as a precaution against unforeseen delays. We are unable to waive insurance for orders exceeding this amount. Please see our Insurance Policy for more details.

If your package is delayed and results in DOAs, please follow our Live Arrival Guarantee policy as normal. When we receive the photos, we will submit the claim on your behalf. All approved claims will be credited on your account for a future order.

Many shipping companies stipulate that insurance does not apply to live shipments. As animal lovers, that didn’t sit right with us. The Wet Spot fought hard and successfully negotiated specialized insurance, allowing us to insure your fish just like any other shipment.

Our Live Arrival Guarantee and Insurance work separately to cover your fish, no matter the scenario. The Live Arrival Guarantee covers your fish, provided they are delivered on time. Insurance covers them in the event they are delivered after the scheduled day of arrival. If you elect to waive the insurance, your fish are still covered by our Live Arrival Guarantee, provided your package is delivered on time and the species is not on our list of Guarantee Exempt Fish.
