Description

Rocio octofasciata

Common Name: Jack Dempsey Cichlid

Origin: Endemic to freshwater habitats in Central America, specifically found in rivers and lakes in Mexico and Honduras.

Geographic Range: Native to Central America.

Diet: Carnivore; In the wild, they feed on a variety of small fish, insects, and invertebrates. In captivity, provide a diet rich in high-quality pellets, cichlid pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods such as fish, shrimp, and other protein-rich offerings.

Average Adult Size: Can reach up to 10-15 inches (25-38 cm).

Sexual Dimorphism: Limited sexual dimorphism. Males may develop slightly more extended dorsal and anal fins, and their coloration may intensify during breeding.

Minimum Tank Size: A tank of at least 75 gallons is recommended for adult Rocio octofasciata.

Temperament: Aggressive and territorial. Not suitable for community tanks. Keep them with large, robust tankmates, or better kept alone.
